“After hearing the heart-breaking stories of so many people who suffered from primary hyperparathyroidism for years, I made it my goal to ‘fix it,’” stated Mark Latham. What began as a friendly weekend conversation with Dr. James Norman, one of the world’s foremost experts on parathyroid disease, turned into the National Parathyroid Education Foundation. “I know my experience with people, non-profits, volunteers, and technology can help change the way parathyroid disease is diagnosed and treated,” Latham adds, “We can educate both doctors and patients about the dangers of this overlooked disease and facilitate healthier living for countless people here in the US, and in other countries.”
Latham comes to the Foundation directly from Techbridge, an Atlanta-based non-profit whose mission is to service the technology and communication needs of other non-profit companies. As COO of Techbridge, Latham oversaw the delivery of technology services to more than 300 Atlanta non profits. Latham brought more than 10,000 volunteer hours together with normal staffing to increase services by more than 200%. Latham says, “Passionate volunteers are very important to every non-profit. The experience and passion of people volunteering creates such a positive force that the movement is then impossible to stop. The motivation of patients cured of their parathyroid disease to help with the mission of the Foundation is overwhelming!”
Prior to Techbridge, Latham spent twenty years with United Parcel Service executive team developing new technologies and business processes. After leaving UPS, Latham helped build several successful entrepreneurial startups listed within the INC 500 Fastest Growing Private Companies.
As CEO, Latham’s responsibilities include overseeing all aspects of the Foundation, including fundraising, educational campaigns, and management of all of individuals involved in making the Foundation a success. “We are pleased and excited to have someone with Latham’s business expertise to provide a voice to the thousands of patients and families who have suffered needlessly from hyperparathyroidism” notes board member and founder Dr. James Norman. “So many patient volunteers are anxious to get started and Mark has the skills to direct their efforts.”
