Our most recent video has Dr. James Norman from the Norman Parathyroid Center discussing two of the "confusions" doctors run into when diagnosing hyperparathyroidism: Secondary Hyperparathyroidism and Hyperplasia. You will learn the three (3) causes of secondary hyperparathyroidism are renal failure, gastric bypass, and celiac disease and that there are no causes of secondary hyperparathyroidism causing calcium levels over 10.1. You will also learn that hyperplasia is RARE and that realtime measurement of the parathyroid hormone (not IOPTH) will show very very low PTH levels after the tumor is removed.
Over the past weeks, there have been many videos from the conference for the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists. You can view all previous videos at both the Parathyroid channel on Youtube and Parathyroid.TV
Future videos from question and answer section of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists meeting will include:
- Do you do sestamibi scans on every patient and how are your sestabmibi scans different than other facillities?
- Do you use the "probe" during all operations and why?
- What is the definition of "minimally invasive?"
- Do you inspect all 4 parathyroid glands?
- Asymptomatic vs. symptomatic primary hyperparathyroidism
We want to thank the Norman Parathyroid Center and the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists for allowing us to tape this valuable information and spread it to many more people.
